Cheryl Watterson
Director of Children's and Family Ministries

Cheryl Watterson is our Director of Youth and Family Ministries at St. Matthew’s!  She oversees our Kairos Sunday School program, organizes outreach projects to support our greater community, assists with our youth group activities, and co-directs the Pennington area Vacation Bible School. Since moving to the Pennington area in 1999, Cheryl has been an active member of St. Matthew’s and has taught in the Kairos program, served on the Mission Committee, attended mission trips, and assisted with many church fundraisers. She is the mother of two girls and two boys, all of whom have grown up at St. Matthew’s and have benefitted from being a part of this faith community.

Cheryl is a former social worker with a Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA.  She also holds a BA in Sociology and Spanish from the University of Richmond where she met her husband, Scott. Cheryl worked as a social worker in Atlanta, GA before moving to Chapel Hill, NC and then Pennington, where she stayed home with the children for sixteen years.  She taught in the Two’s class at St. Matthew’s Preschool for thirteen years and continues to teach music to the children and substitute in the classrooms throughout the school year.

Cheryl has always wanted to work with children and families and feels very fortunate to be able to work within her faith community at St. Matthew’s.  You can contact Cheryl by e-mail by clicking here: Kairos@stmatthewspennington.org.
