About Us

St. Matthew’s Preschool is an outreach program of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Pennington. Founded in 1971 as an outgrowth of Christian concern and commitment to meet the needs of parish members and their friends, our program began as “a little bit of leisure time for Mom” and has grown into a nurturing nursery school for children ages 18 months through 5 years.

We are proud to welcome children from all racial, religious, and ethnic backgrounds. For over 50 years, we have provided a warm and supportive environment where children can play, learn, and grow while developing curiosity and confidence.

Parent involvement has always been an important part of our community. Families contribute in many ways—helping with art and music projects, reading to children, overseeing fundraisers, providing healthy snacks, serving on our Board of Directors, or lending a hand in the office.

St. Matthew’s Preschool also offers limited scholarship funds to assist families with special financial needs. This support is made possible through donations, fundraising efforts, and the generosity of St. Matthew’s Parish Life Guild.

St. Matthew’s Preschool provides students with a safe, nurturing environment that supports each child’s individual growth and development. We aim to build a foundation of confidence, compassion, and curiosity that children carry with them beyond their preschool years.

Our Philosophy

At St. Matthew’s Preschool, we believe that play is the most valuable form of learning for young children. Our curriculum is based on structured play and includes interactive lessons that support each child’s social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development.

Children are encouraged to explore, discover, create, question, and invent. Every child is valued as a unique and contributing member of our school community. St. Matthew's Preschool is an outreach program of the St. Matthew's Episcopal Church.  We have been having fun with and educating children since 1971.  We welcome children from all racial, religious and ethnic backgrounds.
